Union Rags is a son of Dixie Union, winner in 7-of-12 career races for more than $1.2 million. Dixie Union won five graded stakes, including the Haskell Invitational-G1 and Malibu Stakes-G1 in 2000. Dixie Union died unexpectedly in 2010, but prior to his death was responsible for nearly 20 graded stakes horse betting winners.

Tempo raced only three times during her brief horse betting career, winning twice and finishing second in the other. She has produced seven winners, including one other stakes-placed runner.

2YO RACING SEASON

Union Rags made his career horse betting debut on July 12, 2011 in relative quiet at Delaware Park. Even the bettors weren’t initially enamored, and this $390,000 auction buy snuck away at 7/1 odds in his career debut. Racing at five furlongs, and probably not fully cranked knowing the horse betting tendencies of trainer Michael Matz, Union Rags ran past the field like they were standing still.

It was a high display of horse betting confidence by Matz that Union Rags moved right into graded stakes company, and where better to tackle the big boys of summer than Saratoga. When Union Rags won the Saratoga Special-G2 on August 15 by more than seven lengths the cat was out of the horse betting bag.

Union Rags was given a brief vacation in late horse betting summer and returned for the Champagne Stakes-G1 on October 8 at Belmont Park. Racing beyond a sprint distance for the first time, Union Rags overcame an eventful horse betting trip to win by 5 ¼ widening lengths.

Unbeaten, and seemingly untested, Union Rags was the big favorite to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile-G1 at Churchill Downs in early May. Sent away at even-money odds, Union Rags fell a head shy of catching Hansen, after what many horseplayers considered a poor ride, and that narrow defeat would cost him a divisional horse betting championship.

3YO RACING SEASON

All horse betting eyes were on south Florida this winter, awaiting the return of Union Rags. Fans and horse betting handicappers would have to wait until late February to see this two-year-old sensational, but when they got their chance in the Fountain of Youth-G2 they were not disappointed.

Regular rider Javier Castellano had opted to ride Algorithms in the Fountain of Youth, and that opened the door for Julien Leparoux. Given the ease with which he won this horse betting race, it likely wouldn’t have mattered if there was a monkey on his back. Union Rags looked like a winner from the start, and when he blew by the horse betting field turning for home, on his own power, he laid claim that he was back – possibly better than ever.

One more race awaits before a horse betting trip to Churchill Downs, the Florida Derby-G1. Another powerhouse performance like we saw in the Fountain of Youth and Union Rags would be a heavy horse betting favorite to win the Run for the Roses.
